If Lumonics played in a forest, but there was no-one around to hear it, would they make a sound? The short answer is yes. The long answer is yes…, yes they would.

Lumonics is what happens when Alex, Cosi, Adrian, and Marguerita play music together using vocals, guitars, bass and drums. Feeding on work from just about every musical era, Lumonics base their sound on music with ambient texture and smooth rhythmic balance, with a little angst thrown into the mix. Despite Lumonics members not quite knowing how to define themselves, they have been told by keen observers that they swim in the lake of post-rock, or at least in the surrounding ponds.

The evolution of Lumonics was completed with the fusion of now defunct groups High Street (of which Alex, Adrian and Marguerita were members) and the nameless band that Cosi and Alex had been trying to get off the ground for some time.

Influences are many and varied but the resulting collaboration is distinct and unique enough to be getting them regular gigs at venues across Adelaide.

Alex (vocals/bass/guitar) combines his love of melancholy lyrical content with melodic vocals while man-handling his instrument. Just don’t ask him to advertise your latest deodorant product.

Cosi (vocals/guitar) enjoys the exploration of sounds pleasant to the ear yet strange and warped, and all while howling at the moon. For what he lacks in attention span, he makes up in guitar pedal tom-foolery.

Adrian (guitar/bass) strives to provide a warm, textured sound that is essential to the Lumonics sound. He may not seem so in-yer-face, but his melodies will sure stay in-yer-head.

Marguerita (drums/vocals) is the anchor that holds the sometimes flailing ship steady. When she’s not hysterically laughing, Midge (as she’s invariably known) desperately stabs at her kit creating beats and fills that can scarcely be seen/heard elsewhere.

Demos have been made, EP plans are in the works, and the future looks promising for Lumonics.
